one of the major issues we have in this country is the obscene CEO pay (and he still gets obscene pay even if he tanks the company into bankruptcy) vs. the regular hourly employee pay. minimum wage today when adjusted for inflation and productivity just doesn't go as far as minimum wage in 1964. it should be something like 20.00/hr now when adjusted for productivity and inflation. what should be done is total CEO compensation (benefits, golden parachutes, etc) should be capped at no more than 100 times the median hourly employees wage in a company. also congress should be put on hourly pay and not salary (their benefits should be typical of what is found in the private sector, no premium benefits packages) and that pay should be tied to the minimum wage. if they get a raise we get a raise. congress should also have to pay secret service on their own dime after leaving public office if they want protection they should have to face the public they screwed over while in office and not be able to hide and separate themselves from the public they hosed over while holding public office. in 1964 you could graduate HS go into a job, buy a house, car, go on vacation, buy nice things, retire with everything paid off and not have to rely on SS as your primary retirement source, now a days when you just get out of HS you are loaded down with student debt, have to live off ramen noodles in a room in someone elses house and going to the movies stretches the budget and retirement well if it is still around SS will be the primary retirement source.
