couple things that can be done to shore up Social Security is to remove the FICA cap, very limited means testing / earnings caps tied to inflation (people very well off should not collect SS), and to repay with interest all the money borrowed. hell just repaying the borrowed money with interest will make social security solvent for decades to come.
on medicaid and medicare combining and converting the programs to universal healthcare and allowing this program to negotiate pharmaceutical costs. this will drastically lower overhead and overall healthcare costs. then we require Hospitals / ER's, Testing Labs to go non profit the way they used to be. we can have independent primary physicians and specialists but hospitals and ER's, testing labs should not be for profit.
and we also need tort reform. also we should educate doctors and other healthcare professionals free of charge with the requirement they serve under served rural areas in the USA for X amount of years.
there would need to be some way to lock in this program so future congresses can't dicker with the program and try to defund it or some such things to try and make it appear ineffective.
finally. we need to raise taxes on billionaires incomes and golden parachutes, and executive compensation and these things damn sure should not be tax deductible for corporations as a business expense. they want to dole out obscene compensation packages then tax payers should not foot the bill!!!
the other things we can do is a small transaction tax on stock trades.
we can close loopholes in the tax code and require offshore income be repatriated and then lower the overall tax rate.
on estate tax anything over say 5 Million (this number gets tied to actual inflation and goes up with inflation) in value is Taxed at a modest rate with no loopholes to transfer it tax free.
now with all these new taxes here come the tax breaks
you as a business get a percentage off your taxes to employ American (not H1B or Undocumented or Seasonal) workers at a livable standard (say currently $20/hr tied to inflation) and there would be no limit the more workers you employ at a livable standard the higher the tax break.
then we also require government entities to buy American products. especially the military we should not be importing military hardware from other countries!!!
also put a small tariff on incoming products. Say 5% is reasonable.
all these things will serve to improve this country for the average person and make America great again.
