Yesterday, on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Donald Trump’s incoming Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, said:
“I don’t think President-elect Trump wants to meddle with Medicare or Social Security. He made a promise in the campaign that that was something that he didn’t want to do.”
But, in the same interview, in his very next breath, Priebus said the president-elect wants to “help shore up Medicare and Social Security for future generations.” That’s Republican code for cuts. They say Medicare and Social Security are doomed so that future generations will accept their destruction.
We know that Paul Ryan and incoming members of Trump’s cabinet are eagerly awaiting their chance to destroy our earned benefits. But Social Security Champion Senator Bernie Sanders is fighting back!
Tomorrow at 2:30pm ET Senator Sanders will introduce an amendment “against legislation that would break Donald Trump’s promise not to cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid.”
Republicans in Congress haven’t been subtle about their desire to send cuts to Trump’s desk. Trump must be unequivocal: He must keep his promise to veto any bill that cuts Social Security or Medicare.
Email your senators right now and tell them to support the Sanders amendment to protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid!
